Your telegram of lat June Shameen Service

claims by the companies do not include losses other

than on the Shameen Service. Recurrent charges which

the Company would have been compelled to meet if service

had not been continued have not been deducted from the

claim and would have averaged per month as follows

On the Honam September to December $2650 on the Fatshan

or substitute $2850 Lungshan January to present time

Confidential enclosure No. 3 it has been found impossible

for the present to carry out proposal to send the Ocean

steamer to Canton. Proposal was not made by Hong Kong

Canton Steamboat Company which owns one of the two daily

service steamere and is party chiefly interested in the recovery of the losses/proposal was made with a view to

assisting in reopening the direct ocean trade between

Canton and North China ports in British vessels and not

in any way in the interests of Hong Kong trade or daily

steamboat service. With reference to the newspaper

report referred to by you Kuomintang Canton issued

proclamation dated 31st May purporting to be signed by

Wangchingwei Huharmin Tamyenkai Kooyingfeng and C.C.The
